Is It the Console, the Dock or the Charger?

A lot of Switch faults look alike, so it helps to rule out the simple things before booking a repair:

• Won't charge or turn on: try the official Nintendo charger plugged straight into the console rather than the dock, and leave it for at least 30 minutes. A completely flat battery can take a while to show the charging icon. If nothing happens, hold the power button for 15 seconds to force a restart. No sign of life after that usually means the USB-C port or the power-management chip.
• No picture on the TV but fine in handheld mode: the dock, the HDMI cable or the dock's power adapter is the usual suspect. If another dock doesn't work either, the console's USB-C port or video chip may be at fault.
• Joy-Con drift: the analogue stick has worn. Recalibrating in System Settings helps for a short time, but replacing the stick is the lasting fix.
• "Unable to read the game card": clean the card contacts gently and try another game. If no cartridge reads, the card reader needs replacing.

Games bought from the eShop can be downloaded again with your Nintendo Account.
